The 2012 RNC - Our Fears are Realized

The Republican National Convention just happened and it was a circus. There were Olympic superstars that supported Romney's story of how he saved they Utah Olympics including Mike Eruzione a la the Miracle on Ice victory over the Soviets. Also representing antiquity was, as promised there was a guest speaker - a senile old man interviewing a chair.

It should have come as no surprise. The night was filled with exhalations to American Exceptionalism and cries to Nationalism. They even brought back the calls to harken September 11th. The young Senator Marco Rubio sang out the praises of Romney and America in such a way that it sounded more like a Gospel reading than an endorsement speech.

Count how many times the young Rubio says "special." So many times, it starts to lose its meaning.

He also mentioned a few tid-bits like; "Our national motto is "In God we Trust," reminding us that faith in our Creator is the most important American value of all." This motto wasn't offically made our Country's motto till the 1950's durring the height of the Red scare, during a time of oppressive practices against minorities and fear. The original motto of the United States of America, as can be seen in our Great Seal is "E pluribus unum"- meaning one, out of many. It was meant as a reminder of the hope of bring together so many different peoples and colonies into one unique nation. One can also see it as a warning, if the many cannot come together, they will not be one.

This is a typical dog-and-pony show that we, the people of America, have come to expect from our National conventions. Like the Royal Family, everything associated with the National Conventions - both Democratic and Republican end up nothing more than flashy ritual, parading the glorious candidate in front of the cameras.


There was a lot of hypocrisy spouted tonight from  the Republican Nominee. He mentioned how much he respects women but in the same breath implied that he will take away their control over their body (protecting life). He also spouted to desire to promote the "freedom to build a life" but apparently not for homosexuals because he also wants to "protect marriage."

The bigest shock was very end. With a snicker, a scoff and an audience of laughing lunatics, Mitt Romney showed America the face of the short-sightedness that has plagued the Republican party since George Bush Senior. He stated, "President Obama promised to slow the rise of the oceans and to heal the planet. My promise ... is to help you and your family." He said this in the middle of one the worst heat waves in American history, with crops failing.

There is absolutely no reason the environment should be a partisan issue and Romney's attitude is dangerous to America and to the world. It is ignoring all the warnings of scientists and even our own military. We, as a people, can not afford a commander in chief that ignores all warnings, even from their own Armies. Even Nixon recognized the need for environmental protection.
